There are Low Miles No Miles trucks...and then there are the little pickups that nobody thought twice about saving.
This 2001 GMC Sonoma SLS is exactly that kind of truck.
Showing just 58,500 miles, finished in beautiful Cherry Red Metallic over Charcoal, and equipped with a 2.2-liter four-cylinder and a five-speed manual transmission, this Sonoma represents an a great combination.
A simple, honest, largely untouched compact pickup that hasn't been modified, worked into the ground, or subjected to decades of harsh winter driving.
It's got air conditioning, cruise control, a CD player, and a stick shift right where it belongs.
What more do you really need?
The second-generation GMC Sonoma was one of the last compact pickups from an era when trucks were still relatively small, affordable, and straightforward.
This 2001 SLS is powered by GM's 2.2-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a five-speed manual transmission, delivering the kind of simple, economical driving experience that made these trucks so popular when new.
Finished in Cherry Red Metallic with a Charcoal interior, the truck features a floor-mounted shifter integrated into the center console area, giving the cabin a slightly sportier feel than the more common automatic-equipped examples.
Its equipment includes air conditioning, cruise control, and a factory CD player, offering the conveniences most drivers actually wanted without unnecessary complexity of all the added power options.
One particularly attractive feature is the set of factory-style 16-inch machined aluminum five-spoke wheels, giving this Sonoma a more upscale, sport-oriented appearance while maintaining its original character.
It's a great-looking combination on a compact pickup.
According to the seller, this Sonoma remained with its original owner until recently, when it changed hands after more than two decades.
During that time, the truck accumulated approximately 58,500 miles, a remarkably modest amount of use for a vehicle originally designed to serve as everyday transportation.
The seller reports that the Sonoma has never been exposed to road salt or brine, something particularly noteworthy when evaluating an older compact pickup.
These trucks were inexpensive, dependable transportation when new, and most were driven year-round, used for work, or eventually modified as they aged.
Finding one that has escaped that typical life is becoming increasingly uncommon.
This example has reportedly remained original and largely untouched, preserving the straightforward character that made the Sonoma such an appealing little truck in the first place.
The seller describes this Sonoma as an exceptionally clean, original example, with a well-preserved exterior, interior, and undercarriage.
The Cherry Red Metallic finish presents beautifully, complemented by the factory-style five-spoke aluminum wheels and clean, understated SLS trim.
Inside, the Charcoal cabin retains its original appearance, including the manual shifter arrangement and factory equipment.
The underbody is especially noteworthy.
While some light surface oxidation is visible, the underside remains remarkably clean and solid in appearance, with much of its original factory finish and presentation intact.
The seller reports no exposure to road salt or brine, which is consistent with the overall condition described.
Unlike many surviving compact pickups, this Sonoma has not been subjected to extensive aftermarket modifications or cosmetic alterations.
It remains the kind of straightforward, well-preserved truck that enthusiasts increasingly appreciate precisely because so few were kept this way.
Man, do we love a good mini truck.
Seriously.
There's just something about these little S-10s and Sonomas that takes us right back to a different time.
Back when you could walk into a Chevrolet or GMC dealership and buy a small, simple pickup without spending a fortune.
A four-cylinder.
A five-speed.
A bed in the back.
And just enough options to make the daily commute comfortable.
That was it.
And you know what? For a whole lot of people, that was absolutely perfect.
The funny thing about these trucks is that nobody really thought they were worth preserving.
They were bought to be used.
They hauled lawnmowers, lumber, bicycles, and everything else you could squeeze into the bed. They were first vehicles, work trucks, and daily drivers. Eventually, they rusted away, got modified, or were simply driven until there wasn't much left.
And that's exactly why we get excited when something like this shows up.
A Cherry Red Metallic Sonoma with a stick shift, the right wheels, and barely 58,000 miles on the clock?
Come on.
We love it.
And we especially appreciate the configuration.
The 2.2-liter four-cylinder isn't going to win any drag races, but that's not the point.
It's simple, economical, and paired with a manual transmission that makes driving a little truck like this genuinely enjoyable.
Throw in the air conditioning, cruise control, and CD player, and you've got everything you need.
But what really caught our attention is how clean this thing is underneath.
Finding one with an undercarriage that still presents this well is a big deal.
And here's what we always come back to at LMNM.
It doesn't have to be a rare muscle car, a six-figure collector vehicle, or something with an exotic engine to get us excited.
Sometimes it's just a really clean GMC Sonoma.
A truck that reminds you of something your neighbor drove, your grandfather owned, or you wished you could have bought brand new.
That's what makes this hobby fun.
And we'd take a clean, original, five-speed mini truck like this over a whole lot of newer pickups.
Because sometimes less really is more.
