Description: the full story
There are Low Miles No Miles Fox Bodies…and then there are Saleen Fox Bodies. This 1988 Ford Mustang Saleen Hatchback, showing just 10,214 miles and documented as Saleen #88-008—making it the second retail Saleen produced for the 1988 model year.
Vehicle Overview
Finished in white over grey with rare white wheels, this Saleen stands apart not only for its condition, but for its documented significance. Powered by its original 5.0L (302ci) V8 paired with a manual transmission and 3.55 gearing, it delivers the raw Fox Body driving experience with early Saleen engineering.
This example remains highly original and unmodified throughout, featuring a rare and purpose-driven configuration. Optioned without air conditioning, with a factory sunroof and pinstripe delete, it is noted in the Saleen Registry as a one-of-one example. The car was originally ordered with performance in mind, including a factory radio delete as indicated on the window sticker. Supporting documentation is included, along with paperwork for the Pioneer radio currently installed.
Story
The story behind this car adds another layer to its appeal. Originally special-ordered alongside a matching Saleen by two friends, the cars took very different paths one becoming a race car, while this example was preserved.
The original owner drove it sparingly before selling in 1990. The second owner retained the car for nearly three decades, adding approximately 4,500 miles while maintaining its collector status. The current owner has added around 100 miles over the past three years.
That consistent pattern of careful ownership is reflected in both the miles shown and overall condition.
Condition
As expected for a well-preserved example, the car presents cleanly throughout. It retains its original engine and is reported to show no history of paintwork or rust.
Recent service completed in 2022 at 10,133 miles included fluid changes, a serpentine belt, and general maintenance. In 2023, a new Motorcraft battery and replacement tires were installed, with the original tires included in the sale.
Documentation is extensive and includes the original window sticker, Saleen order documents, Marti Report, warranty paperwork, and prior titles supporting both the car’s history and provenance.

Letter From The LMNM Team
Every once in a while a car comes through that everyone in the office gravitates toward and this is one of those cars.
It’s not just the miles or even the condition. It’s what the car represents. Early Saleen carried direct influence from Steve Saleen’s Racecraft program, built with a focus on real-world performance and driver feel.
What really stood out to us is the story. Two cars ordered together one used as intended, the other preserved. And this is the one that made it. That kind of history is something you can’t recreate.
We genuinely love this car. The spec, the documentation, the originality it checks every box. It’s the kind of piece that fits just as well in a serious collection as it does with someone who truly understands what it is.

This is registered currently in the Saleen Registry. You can register in your name with proof of title. Per the registry, this is a 1 of 1. Two original sets of Ford keys will be included as well.
When I look to add a car to my collection, sometimes the story, documentation & history is as much as important as the car itself. This checked all the boxes for me. See the letter from Saleen to Woody Bidhop stating that 88-07 &88-08 were the first retailed Saleens for 1988. The friends missed the cutoff for the 1987 model so they were promised the first two in 1988. Woodys card is included along with order forms, manuals, warrant cards. The window sticker is in great condition also. Since it was going to be a racer it was a radio delete car. Subsequently a radio was ordered from Saleen and installed – I assume by dealer early in life when it was determined not not to be a racer. Documents included.
These are pics of the original tires that were on it. There was plenty of tread, but they were a bit hard and I didn’t feel comfortable driving on them. They will come with the car so you could use again at shows if desired. In October of 2023, I put new tires on it – they’re 225/50R16 General GMAX RS… these were suggested by the Saleen Community as closest to OEM. I also had the Radio’s cassette player cleaned and new belts. These go over time and I wanted to make sure non of my cassettes got eaten up 🙂 The radio works and sounds great!
Good Morning… Auction day is here! These auctions are often decided in the final moments. Will you be bidding? Hopefully in the end, one lucky bidder will be taking home a truly special Saleen Fox with an amazing history. Low mile clean Fox Saleens don’t come to market very often. This one is a very special one for sure. I’ve really enjoyed being a caretaker of 88-08. As a car addict/enthusiast, I like to say I prefer to drive around in my 401k 🙂 Good luck everyone!
@vehicles of interest … These were provided when I purchased the car. There’s really only , two chips on bottom right front spoiler. See pic, only really visible from underneath. There a “rub” mark on the right rear wheel (see pic), tough to notice. I also have a 15,000 mile 89 Saleen and they’re both very comparable condition. Thanks!
@ppabrians Nice example. Can you verify it is all original paint? Any paint meter readings available? Thank you
Happy Monday everyone. Thanks for the bids and to those that reached out to me. I wanted to share a recent photo of 88-07. As described in the story, 88-07 and 88-08 were ordered by friends to be raced. The current owner of 88-07 shared this pic with me recently. His dad bought it from the original owner. It is still raced to this day! Check out the number on the rear quarter window. I’m looking forward to remainder of the auction….
