Connecting…
There are Low Miles No Miles cars...and then there are the ones that come with a story that makes you appreciate them just a little bit more.
This Chrysler Crossfire Roadster is one of those cars.
Showing just 19,515 miles, this beautifully preserved Crossfire features an uncommon color combination, longtime family ownership, and a personal connection to Chrysler itself.
Originally purchased from its first owner with just 7,775 miles, this Crossfire became the summer cruiser for a woman who had retired from Chrysler after more than 30 years with the company.
It wasn't purchased to sit in a collection or become an investment.
It was purchased because she loved these cars.
And sometimes, that's the best reason of all.
The Chrysler Crossfire remains one of the most interesting collaborations in the company's modern history.
Developed during the DaimlerChrysler era, the Crossfire combined Chrysler's dramatic American styling with engineering and mechanical components derived from the Mercedes-Benz SLK platform.
Its long hood, distinctive body lines, sculpted rear deck, and compact roadster proportions made it unlike anything else in Chrysler showrooms at the time.
With just 19,515 miles showing, this example stands out for its uncommon color combination, well-preserved presentation, and the considerable attention given to its mechanical and cosmetic upkeep.
Rather than being a neglected weekend toy requiring immediate attention, this Crossfire has benefited from thoughtful maintenance and several significant investments.
The history of this Crossfire begins in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where its original owner kept it as part of a larger automobile collection.
According to the seller, the first owner had an extensive warehouse and collection of vehicles, allowing the Crossfire to spend its early years stored indoors.
In 2011, the current family purchased the car with just 7,775 miles showing.
But this wasn't their first experience with the model.
The seller's mother had spent more than 30 years working for Chrysler before retiring in 2008. During those years, the family had access to several Crossfires as company vehicles, and she developed a genuine affection for them.
When the opportunity came to purchase one of their own, they did.
The Crossfire became her summer fun car.
Over the years, it was enjoyed primarily during Michigan's warmer months and stored indoors throughout the winters. While it has spent time outdoors during the past several summers, winter storage has remained a priority.
More recently, the car has seen increasingly limited use, accumulating approximately 1,000 miles over the past four or five years.
Rather than continue letting it sit, the family has decided it's time for someone else to enjoy it.
With only 19,515 miles showing, this Crossfire is described by the seller as a well-maintained example with no major known flaws, although normal cosmetic imperfections consistent with its age and use are present.
One of its most significant improvements is the replacement convertible top.
Crossfire Roadsters are known for potential deterioration of the adhesive securing the rear glass, which can eventually allow water intrusion and create problems with electrical components housed in the trunk.
Rather than attempting a temporary repair, the family invested nearly $3,000 in a high-quality replacement top, including installation.
According to the seller, the replacement carries a transferable 15-year warranty with approximately eight years remaining.
The car also rides on Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 tires installed in 2024, approximately 1,000 miles ago.
An oil change and wheel alignment were completed in preparation for the auction.
Other maintenance performed during the family's ownership includes replacement of the brake booster and alternator.
The seller reports oil changes at approximately 8,000 miles, 13,000 miles, and 18,000 miles in 2022, followed by the most recent service.
Much of the vehicle's upkeep was handled by the seller's father, who took considerable pride in maintaining the car properly.
The result is a Crossfire that has been cared for with an emphasis on continued enjoyment rather than simply being parked and forgotten.
We think the Chrysler Crossfire deserves a little more appreciation than it gets.
Think about what this car actually represents.
Chrysler styling.
Mercedes-Benz engineering.
Rear-wheel-drive sports-car proportions.
And a design that still looks unlike just about anything else on the road.
It's one of those cars that could only have happened during a very specific moment in automotive history.
And this particular example comes with a story we really appreciate.
The seller's mother worked for Chrysler for more than 30 years. She knew these cars when they were new, had experienced them as company vehicles, and liked them enough to buy one for herself after retirement.
That's pretty cool.
There's something special about a person spending decades with an automotive manufacturer and then choosing one of its more unusual creations as their own summer cruiser.
We also appreciate that the family actually took care of the things that matter.
The convertible top is a perfect example.
Anyone familiar with Crossfire Roadsters knows that rear-window separation can become an expensive headache. Instead of applying a temporary fix and passing the problem along, the family invested in a proper replacement.
Add in the Michelin tires, recent service, and other maintenance, and you have a car that has received meaningful attention over the years.
And here's another thing we like.
The seller isn't pretending it's perfect.
He acknowledges that it has some age-related imperfections and encourages the next owner to actually drive it.
We love that attitude.
Not every car that comes through LMNM needs to be a museum piece.
Sometimes the appeal is finding something unusual, well cared for, and ready to create a whole new set of memories.
This Crossfire has already spent years doing exactly that for one family.
Now it's ready for the next chapter.
And we think that's a pretty great reason to own one.
